As Hurricane Helene, the eighth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, makes its way towards Florida, here is what people in Volusia County need to know about evacuations, school closings, shelters, and sandbag locations.

Besides schools, no other closings announced.

Volusia County Shelters

The county said it does not anticipate opening emergency shelters due to the current weather projections. 

Volusia County Sandbags Locations

Wednesday, Sept. 25

  •  Volusia County Branch Jail, 1300 Red John Drive, Daytona Beach, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents must show proof of residency in Volusia County. There is a limit of 10 pre-filed bags per vehicle.
  •  DeBary City Hall, 16 Colomba Road, DeBary, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents must show proof of residency in DeBary. Must bring your own shovel. For households only. 
  •  Festival Park, 191 Howland Blvd,Deltona, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents may get 10 bags per vehicle. 
  • Fire Station #57, Southwest Corner of Hibiscus Drive and 26th Street, Edgewater, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Mango Tree Lake (901 Mango Tree Drive), Edgewater, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Holly Hill Public Works (424 Tenth Street), Holly Hill, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents must show proof of Holly Hill address  
  • Sports Complex Football Stadium (2335 Sunset Drive) New Smyrna Beach. Access to sand piles and bags 24 hours a day
  • Waggin' Trail Dog Park (1201 South Leavitt Avenue), Orange City, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring proof of residency
