Tracking Invest 92L: Tropical depression likely to form, NHC says
What we know:
The NHC said in its 2 p.m. update that Invest 92L was producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the southwestern Gulf and that it was likely to become a tropical depression later in the week.
It's then expected to drive eastward before turning north towards the southern United States.
Will it impact the southern U.S. or Florida?
What we don't know:
"It is too early to determine the specific impacts to the northern Gulf Coast, but interests there should closely monitor the progress of this system," the NHC said.
However, the FOX 35 Storm Team said regardless of what develops, the system is expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential localized flooding wherever it falls, spanning anywhere between the Florida Panhandle and Louisiana.
2026 Atlantic hurricane season: Future Isaias?
Local perspective:
The next cyclone name on the list is Isaias (ee-sah-ee-iss), which would be the ninth storm of the 2026 Atlantic season. There have been zero hurricanes so far, making 2026 the quietest hurricane season since the modern satellite era.
FOX 35 meteorologist Brooks Garner said high wind shear is one of the obstacles that Invest 92L would have to overcome to develop into a tropical storm or potentially a hurricane.
