Second deadly crash involving Brightline train
A Brightline train collided with a truck at an intersection in Melbourne on Friday afternoon, leaving two dead, officials said. It is at the exact same location where a man was killed and three injured when their SUV struck a passing train. Authorities said both drivers were attempting to outrun the train and drove between the crossing arms.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Brightline train collided with a truck at an intersection in Melbourne on Friday afternoon, leaving two dead, officials said.
The deadly crash happened in the area of W.H. Jackson and U.S. Highway 1, at the very same crossing where one person died when their SUV collided with a Brightline train earlier this week.
Around 12:51 p.m. Friday, a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling west on W H Jackson Street and was struck by a southbound Brightline train operating on the easternmost railway.
The two people inside the truck who died were identified as 54-year-old Michael Anthony Degasperi and 52-year-old Lisa Ann Batchelder.
Drivers were asked to find an alternate route around W.H. Jackson.
