ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported that in the afternoon of December 16th, deputies working at Waterford Lakes Town Center were advised of an auto burglary happening right behind the Best Buy store.
Deputies say that a witness saw two black males run north across the street and jump into the wall nearby Rexford Apartments.
Deputies reportedly set up a perimeter to look for the suspects who had stolen the victim's personal belongings.
An employee at Toys 'R Us on Alafaya Trial also called the Orange County Sheriff's Office to report a suspicious person after they told police that they saw a man enter the store, change clothes, and leave in a yellow cab with another man and woman.
The sheriff's office says that they were able to coordinate the location of the Yellow Cab. A traffic stop and felony stop of the vehicle was conducted.
Deputies say that they removed all three suspects from teh vehicle and secured them in handcuffs. The witness was able to positively identify all three suspects. The property recovered was returned to the victim.
The three suspects were identified as Sherod Hayes, Jasmine Dancer, and Shawn Robinson.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office recommends that:
- Be sure to lock all doors and windows when parking your vehicle even for a few minutes.
- To reduce your risk, avoid leaving valuables such as laptop bags and suitcases as well as spare change visible through the windows.
- Put [valuables] in the trunk or use a blanket to conceal it. Anything that makes it less valuable to break into the vehicle is better.
- Try to park in well-lit public areas. Avoid parking in areas that are poorly lit or places that are not immediately seen by the public.
- Take an inventory of your missing items, if you have been a victim. Figure out what was taken from your car so you can notify the deputy and determine which items need to be replaced.
- Report the incident immediately, it’s important reporting car break-ins as it can help law enforcement identify patterns such as neighborhoods, streets or areas that burglars are targeting more heavily and can help catch the burglars depending on the time delayed.
