Thousands of sharks spotted migrating off Florida east coast

A view you don't get to see very often: thousands of sharks swimming off the coast of Florida.  Video posted from Florida Atlantic University shows a bird's eye view of the ocean as thousands of sharks migrate north. 

The helicopter is going north following Florida's east coast.  If you look closely you can see hundreds of black-tip sharks swimming just under the surface.  According to the Facebook post, F.A.U. researchers did not find many sharks from Miami to Palm Beach, but then found thousands swimming  between Palm Beach and Jupiter.  

That video was posted on Friday.  Then on Saturday, F.A.U. posted pictures of researchers fitting 5 sharks with transmitters.  The sharks migrate north every year from January to March to follow the fish they eat.  These transmitters will help university researchers track their journey this year.  

Blacktips spend the winter in Florida, then head to Georgia and the Carolinas as it warms up, sometimes going as far north as New York. 

It might sound scary to have thousands of sharks so close together, but bites from blacktip sharks are rare.
