Thieves ram truck into Winter Park pawn shop
WINTER PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Winter Park police are searching for several suspects who drove a truck into a Fairbanks Avenue pawn shop early Christmas morning.
According to a police spokeswoman, the break in took place around 2:15 a.m. when a black Ford F-150 truck struck another vehicle while trying to hit the front of Mike's Pawn Shop on Fairbanks near I-4.
A woman in the other car, who police say was traveling with a child, saw several people get out of the truck and she left the area fearful she was about to be robbed. She then called police to report the accident.
When officers arrived they found the truck abandoned where crashed into the store.
Based on security camera video from inside the store, it appears several suspects dressed so they couldn't be identified broke into jewelry cases causing heavy damage. However, the owner of the store said there was nothing of value inside the cases.
The truck was towed away by police. They think the suspected thieves fled in another vehicle or on foot. Investigators want to look at surveillance video from surrounding stores, but will have to wait until those businesses reopen after the holiday.
There appeared to be no injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle.
