Teen bit by shark while surfing at New Smyrna Beach
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A teen was bit by shark while surfing at New Smyrna Beach.
Beach rescue officials say that it happened in this area of New Smyrna Beach near 27th Avenue. They say the shark bit the teen on his foot while he surfing out there.
It happened a little before noon on this busy stretch of beach. Lifeguards say the 14-year-old was in about chest deep water when the shark clamped down.
The surfer left with a minor laceration on his foot. Beach patrol says the teen did not have to go to the hospital, but they do typically recommend that any shark bite victim get checked out by a doctor.
