Student arrested and charged after making threat on social media
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Parents and students were warned about a social media threat against one local high school overnight.
The threat was against Timber Creek High School. The school's principal says that the student who made the threat on social media, specifically Snapchat, has been identified and arrested. 15-year-old Noah Griffith was arrested and charged with a felony under Fl. Statute 836.10 “written threats to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism." He was taken to a Juvenile Assessment Center on Sunday night.
The school wants to assure parents that it is safe to send students to school today. Out of an abundance of caution, there will also be extra deputies on campus. A phone call went out Sunday night and on Monday morning. The principal posted the same message on the school's Facebook page on Sunday night.
The school says that they are taking this matter very seriously, saying that consequences for making threats against the school can include expulsion and arrest.
The school wants to remind parents and students that they can report threats to any adult at the school or by calling their 'SpeakOut' hotline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
