St. Cloud police investigates series of car break-ins
ST. CLOUD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - St. Cloud police say officers are investigating an unusually high number of car break-ins in several subdivisions throughout the city between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
William Carpenter says his truck was parked just feet away from his home on Village Green Court when it was hit.
He noticed glass in his driveway when he looked out the window Sunday morning and realized the window had been broken.
“I inventoried the truck without touching it and then I noticed my girlfriend’s car – all of her stuff was pilfered through also,” Carpenter said.
He says nothing was taken, but that wasn’t the case in the subdivision across the street.
William Short says he also found a broken window when he left for work.
“They actually did get one of my book bags. It had my iPad in it and they got away with that,” Short said.
Officers say in all, they have 18 reported break-ins involving broken windows and unlocked cars.
There are also three cases of vandalism, where the window was busted out, but no one ended up going inside the car.
Investigators tell Fox 35 that they think one group is responsible for hitting four subdivisions in the city and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
“Being that my deductible is $250 and my window is going to cost $217, and the insurance doesn’t cover it, it kind of puts a damper on the Christmas spirit,” Carpenter said.
Police say they’re reviewing surveillance videos from the neighborhoods and tracking down some leads.
