Shooting of Sanford teen a possible 'accidental discharge'

Authorities say teenager that was shot in Sanford on Friday, may have been injured due an accidental discharge of a gun.

Police responded to the shooting, in the area of 13th and Olive Avenue, just before 5 p.m. Friday.  Officers discovered that a 17 -year-old man had been shot inside a residence.  At the time, police did not believe the shooting to be random.

"Investigators are still working to determine what event led up to the incident; however, the initial investigation indicates an accidental discharge," said police spokesperson Bianca Gillett on Monday.  "Investigators are not looking for any additional individuals connected to this incident."

The teen was in critical, but stable, condition at a local hospital.
