Seminole tax collector doubles down over controversial Muslim post

SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Just days after stirring up controversy on Facebook, Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg appeared to lash back at those calling for his resignation on Twitter.

Among the dozens of responses tweeted from Greenberg’s account late Monday into Tuesday were words like “bite me” and “not happening” to those demanding he resign his post. The tweets also appeared to double down on some of the comments that started the controversy.

Greenberg posted a question Saturday on Facebook saying this: "Name just ONE society in the developed world that has benefited in ANY WAY from the introduction of more Muslims. Just one. Asking for a friend."

That sparked a protest outside his office Monday along with some declaring their support for Greenberg online.

During the Twitter tear, Democratic Florida House candidate Anna Eskamani also got a biting response from Greenberg’s account after asking if he would resign.

"He had retweeted me with a comment of 'I'm not resigning and I'm donating $200,000 to your opponent,'” said Eskamani, "and anytime I said anything else, the contribution would go up by another $25,000."

When we tried to reach out to Greenberg Tuesday, asking if he would do an interview and give his side of the situation, he simply responded “No sir.”

Greenberg has previously stated he was only copying what a friend had written.
