SANFORD, Fla. - A man is dead following a shooting in the Best Buy parking lot in Sanford on Tuesday evening, according to police.
The Sanford Police Department identified the victim as 21-year-old Terance Darnell Pope.
Shortly after 8 p.m, officers responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Rinehart Road and Garnet Lane.
Upon arrival, officers found Pope with a gunshot wound in the store's parking lot. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Sanford Police Department spokesperson Bianca Gillett said at a Wednesday morning news conference that their investigation remains in its early stages as they work to determine the motive.

"We know that he was in that parking lot. We don't know why," Gillett said. "We don't know if he was a patron of the store. We don't know if something occurred on the roadway and ended there. We are investigating all of those possibilities."
Investigators are also checking if surveillance footage from Best Buy and nearby retail stores might aid the investigation.
