SANFORD, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A Sanford Park was vandalized over the weekend -- and not for the first time.
The City of Sanford said that someone set five trash cans on fire at Coastline Park. There are also burn marks on the playground equipment and picnic tables. Holes were found in the fence as well. And finally, there was trash in the fountain that ended up burning out the pump motor.
The cost of the vandalism is estimated at over $5,000. Police in Sanford are looking for the culprits.
Parks and Rec officials said they spent $1 million renovating Coastline Park about two years ago. Since then, they have had at least $30,000 worth of vandalism occur.
Sanford said that they are going to try and find the money to make the repairs, but it will not be easy.
Signs are placed throughout the park that reminds people that park improvements cannot happen if the vandalism continues.
