A 70-year-old woman is facing charges after she drunkenly ran over and killed her husband while they were searching for their dog last week, according to a Palm Bay police report.

Sally Gore was booked into the Brevard  County jail on charges of DUI and DUI manslaughter.

On Friday, Oct. 20, Palm Bay officers were called to the Gore home on Dittner Circle SE after receiving a report of a possible hit-and-run crash. The victim, Gregory Gore, was found lying in the road in front of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

When officers arrived, they spoke to Sally in the driveway about what happened. During their conversation, officers said they smelled alcohol on her breath, her eyes were bloodshot, and she appeared to slur her words.

According to the report, Sally drove home from having dinner at a Beef O'Brady's restaurant with Gregory in the passenger's seat. She reported having two glasses of wine at dinner.

When they pulled into the driveway, they noticed that their front gate was open. Sally told police they believed their dog – which reportedly had a history of getting out – had escaped their home, the report said.

The couple agreed to look for the dog in the neighborhood. Gregory got out of the vehicle to search for the dog, while Sally drove around the neighborhood to look for the dog.

She told officers that she backed out of the driveway and drove around the block looking for the dog. Officers obtained video showing Sally driving past the neighborhood's community center shouting for her dog.

She returned home and that's when she was stopped by a woman and found her husband's body in the street. She was not aware of making any impact to her husband with the vehicle, the report said.

Evidence at the scene, however, appeared consistent with the vehicle striking Gregory, officers said. Police believe she backed into him while leaving the driveway prior to her search for the dog.

Sally agreed to provide officers with a breath sample, which returned at .120 g, nearly twice the legal limit in Florida.

She was taken into custody and has since been released, jail records show.

The police report did not reveal whether the dog was ever found.
