Rip Current Awareness Week: How to stay safe

It's 'Rip Current Awareness Week' and the United States Lifesaving Association says that more than 100 people die each year on U.S. beaches. 

They suggest that you follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Never swim alone -- get near lifeguards whenever possible.
  • If you do get caught in a rip current, don't try to fight the current. Just swim parallel to the shore until you are able to get out.
