Ride share drivers, passengers talk about guns in vehicles

Orange County sheriff's deputies charged a man who was shot by his ride-share driver, authorities said.

Police said a driver for a ride-sharing company shot a man after he allegedly threatened her, and struck his apparent girlfriend during the ride.

According to police, the woman picked up a man and a woman in downtown Orlando shortly after midnight Tuesday morning to take them to their hotel.

Before picking the couple up, the driver told police that she witnessed the man, later identified as Daniel Pacheco, 27, hit the woman. He also reportedly struck the woman again while inside the vehicle.

At that point, the driver stopped the car and told Pacheco to get out, police said. She also told him she had a gun.

Police said the two got into an argument and Pacheco charged at the driver, who feared for her life and shot him. The man was taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Once released from the hospital, Pacheco will be booked into jail on a charge of battery dating violence, police said. The shooting part of the case will be submitted to the state attorney's office to determine whether or not charges should be filed.

No other details were released.
