President Trump announces that FBI will look into Jussie Smollett case
WASHINGTON (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - In an early morning tweet on Thursday, President Trump announced that he would have the Justice Department and the FBI review the Jussie Smollett case.
"FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!" tweeted the president.
On Tuesday, prosecutors dropped the charges against the 32-year-old "Empire" actor. The news had fans, Chicago police, celebrities and his co-stars speaking out.
“I’m happy his charges are being dropped and look forward to seeing Jussie on set and his character Jamal back on 'Empire,'” co-star AzMarie Livingston told People in a statement Tuesday.
Smollett had pleaded not guilty to charges that accused him of lying to the police about being the victim of a hate crime in downtown Chicago. He was facing 16 felony counts.
