Stop sticks halt fleeing vehicle in Port Orange, leading to arrest of retail theft trio

Three suspects were arrested Monday after fleeing police in connection with a series of retail thefts in the Daytona Beach and Port Orange area, authorities said.

According to the Port Orange Police Department, detectives investigating an organized retail theft crew tracked the suspects to a Bath & Body Works store in Port Orange.

When officers interrupted their alleged criminal activity, the suspects fled the scene in a white Ford Fusion.

The driver refused to stop during a traffic stop, speeding away and running red lights, police said.

Sergeant Rogers deployed stop sticks, deflating the vehicle’s tires. The suspects began throwing stolen merchandise out of the car windows before the vehicle became inoperable.

The driver pulled into a nearby neighborhood, where the vehicle was surrounded by patrol officers and detectives.

The three occupants were ordered out of the car and taken into custody without further incident.

The suspects were identified as:

  • Kayvon Brown, 27, of Daytona Beach, charged with fleeing or attempting to elude and driving without a license.
  • Alexus Jones, 26, of Daytona Beach, charged with grand theft.
  • Zevante Taylor, 31, of Daytona Beach, charged with grand theft and tampering with evidence.

All three were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Authorities said investigations into previous thefts involving the suspects are ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
