Police: Woman caught on camera torching car in Clearwater arrested
CLEARWATER (FOX 13) - A woman seen setting a car on fire in Clearwater last week had been trying to set fire to her ex-boyfriend's car, police say.
It happened on Blanche B. Littlejohn Trail. The woman is seen in one surveillance video, behind the car, stoking flames in the trunk of a Honda Accord with some type of materials. She starts to walk away from the car, but then comes back to push another piece of material, already in the trunk, onto the flames.
She walks out of view as the car continues to burn.
In a second video, the woman can be seen walking next to a building, surveying the scene. She walks toward the side of the building and seems to pick something up from the window sill, look at it, then place it back on the sill. She also looks into the passenger side window of a grey or silver SUV parked next to the building before she walks away.
Police have since identified the woman as Carmen Chamblee, 19. Police say she told detectives she thought the car belonged to an ex-boyfriend of hers, but that was not the case.
Chamblee was arrested and charged with second-degree arson.
