Police: Love triangle leads to shooting

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Port Orange police officers on Tuesday arrested man they say shot another man who was in a swimming pool with his estranged wife.  

Investigators said Thomas Higginbotham shot Adam Wellman at his home on Frederick Lake Drive, just before midnight on Monday.

According to police, Wellman was in a pool with Higginbotham’s estranged wife. When shots were fired, Wellman took off running through his house and out the front door to a neighbor’s house for help.  Wellman was hit in the arm, receiving non life-threatening injuries.

Police said Higginbotham drove to South Florida, where he made suicidal statements, then he was contact with police who eventually caught up with him in Edgewater. 

Higginbotham faces two counts of attempted murder.
