GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Two teens that were killed in a tragic series of events that happened in a Gwinnett County neighborhood have been identified.
Gwinnett County Police identified the two teenagers as 17-year-old Chad Carless and 15-year-old Devin Hodges.
Gwinnett County officials told FOX 5's Claire Simms that the shooting happened at a home near the 1800 block of Riverlanding Circle in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Monday. In a makeshift shed in one of the neighborhood's home's backyards, four teens were apparently looking at a gun.
After interviewing multiple witnesses, detectives learned that Hodges was showing the group a hand gun when he accidentally fired a shot. Detectives said the shot hit Carless, who was sitting next to Hodges in the shed.
Police said Carless died soon after being shot.
The three teens left the shed to call 911. When officers were getting to the scene they said they heard a gunshot.
Police said Hodges was seen running between two homes, where he then took his own life by shooting himself with the same gun. His body was found a short distance from the shed.
Police have not said who owns the gun or how the teens obtained it.
The investigation in ongoing.
