Police: Boys were choked, had cuts, bruises, burns; mother and boyfriend arrested
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - A Virginia woman and a North Carolina man were charged with child abuse after police found two children with serious injuries at a motel, authorities said.
Matthew Anthony Brooks, 25, of Lewisville was charged by Kernersville police with two counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, the Winston-Salem Journal reported on Monday.
Police also charged Heather Marie Greenway, 26, of Union Hall, Virginia, with two counts of felony negligent child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury. Specifically, police accused Greenway of allowing Brooks to injure her sons. At the time, Brooks was caring for the boys as Greenway’s boyfriend, according to arrest warrants.
According to the warrant, the boys were choked and had severe bruises, cuts and burns. The children were treated at a hospital for their injuries, and are now in the care of Child Protective Services, police said.
Brooks was jailed on a $750,000, while Greenway was being held on a $500,000 bond. Online records don’t indicate whether either person has an attorney.
