Poinciana neighborhood plagued by wild boars

POINCIANA, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A Poinciana neighborhood is going to the hogs.

Wayne Sewram is one of the many homeowners there plagued by pigs for the last five weeks. He showed photos on his phone of the boars going hog-wild in his yard. They rooted-around in the dirt, turning his lawn into a pig sty.

“It's terrible, look at it, you know?” Sewram said, “I just got tired of it, and I called the county and they say the only thing you can do is put a trap, and that's what I'm doing right now.”

He's been using a baited trap to try catching some of the pigs, but he hasn't caught any yet. He said the animals are clever and there are dozens of them.

The Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) says these pigs may look small and cute, but they can grow to the size and weight of a man. Neighbor Sal Tola said they're desperate to get rid of them, but it's on them to get that done. “I went to the association but they said they couldn't do nothing about it.”

FWC says homeowners can hire trappers to get rid of nuisance hogs, or hunt them themselves year-round. 

Sewram just wonders why the pigs seem to target his lawn. “They dig in the ground, there must be something there - gold or something!”
