Passenger train between Mt. Dora, Tavares closing

MT. DORA, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - The Royal Palm Railway Experience, a popular train that runs through Lake County, is shutting down its route between Tavares and Mount Dora.  Rides will continue on the line that connects Tavares and Eustis.

The Royal Palm Railway Experience is best known for cute rides like the Wizard of Oz-themed one and a Polar Express during the holiday season.

“Pulling Mount Dora out of the situation, out of not stopping here, I think is a no-no. I think it's a big mistake,” said Joan Hodge, of Bradenton.

“Not to have it in Mount Dora is a bad, bad idea,” said Allen and Sandra Ober, of the Villages.

People are now rushing to book a Mount Dora train ride before it closes on April 22.

“I couldn't wait to go on it. That was one of the highlights between the boat tour and the museum. The train was going to be one of my highlights,” said Hodge.“We will definitely now, now that we know, we're being forced.”
