Police say a stranger broke into the home of an 87-year-old woman and climbed on top of her as she slept; however, she was able to fight him off and escape.

The Brevard County Sheriffs Office bloodhound was sniffing around Roxbury Court in Palm Bay early Tuesday, trying to track down the scent of the alleged attacker.

The woman's niece said the suspect broke out her aunt's bathroom window, climbed inside, got on top of the elderly woman and tried pulling off her skirt. The woman hit her attacker repeatedly with her shoe, until he finally got off of her.

Palm Bay Police and Melbourne Police are now working together to see if the attack is connected to a series of incidents involving other sex crimes.  Melbourne police officers are investigating four sex crimes in three weeks in the Indian Bluffs neighborhood. Detectives said one woman was sexually battered and three other incidents involve a man who was said to be performing sex acts or exposing himself to unsuspecting women.
