Palm Bay homeowner fires back in shootout after suspected thieves break into cars

Two men were caught on camera, accused of rifling through cars on a Palm Bay street early Wednesday morning, but their alleged crime spree ended when one of the suspects engaged in a shootout with a homeowner.

The suspects, seen on a Ring camera moving from house to house, were not just after valuables — police say they were armed. Shortly after the video was recorded, one of the suspects fired at a homeowner who had been alerted by the camera. The homeowner returned fire, hitting the suspect, who was later arrested at the hospital.

The suspect, 22-year-old Javon Williams, is facing charges of armed burglary. Despite denying involvement, police say gunshot residue on his hands contradicts his account.

"Is it worth risking yourself being injured or someone else if all we’re dealing is a property crime that potentially law enforcement can solve?" asked Orlando Rolón.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for additional suspects.
