Osceola County middle school placed on lockdown
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - An Osceola County middle school was put on lockdown during its open house Tuesday night.
A district spokesperson says no one was allowed to go in or out of the building starting at around 4:45 p.m. because of police activity in the area.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a shooting about a mile away from the school. Investigators say when they got to the scene, they found out a guy had been shooting into the ground and there were no victims.
School officials say the lockdown was lifted at around 6:15 p.m. and they ended up extending the open house by an hour because of the disruption.
Kids in Osceola County go back to school on Thursday.
