Orlando weather: Saturday will be a repeat of late afternoon, evening storms in Central Florida

Stream FOX 35 News

Showers and storms will diminish overnight into early Saturday morning, with overnight lows in the mid- to upper 70s.

Saturday will start dry, much like the last two days, but widespread storms will arrive late afternoon and into the evening. Highs on Saturday will reach into the low 90s, and it will be a humid, muggy day.

LOOKING AHEAD: A stationary front in northern Florida will shift slightly south but is expected to stay just north of our area through Sunday. The Florida peninsula will continue to see high moisture levels, keeping rain chances high throughout the weekend.

Expect scattered to numerous showers, a 50-70% chance of rain each day, and some scattered lightning storms. Warmer air higher up in the atmosphere will help limit the strength and frequency of severe storms and lightning.

This weekend's main concerns will be heavy rain and potential flooding, with total rainfall expected to reach 2-4 inches or more. Most of the rain and thunderstorms will occur over the eastern half of the peninsula. Areas along and north of the I-4 corridor are at a marginal risk for excessive rainfall through the weekend. Locations that have already received substantial rainfall in the last few days will be more susceptible to flooding, particularly in urban, low-lying, and poor drainage areas.

There is a high risk of life-threatening rip currents as well.

It will stay warm and humid, with afternoon temperatures in the low 90s and possibly in the upper 80s in the far northern areas on Sunday.

Polaris Dawn launch forecast

While it is still too early to know if SpaceX will proceed with its early Monday morning launch of the Polaris Dawn mission, the FOX Model forecasts unsettled weather over Cape Canaveral.

Tracking the Tropics

The National Hurricane Center is tracking potential tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico, and conditions are starting to look more favorable.

A medium chance exists (50%) for a system to form early to mid-next week, as two tropical waves are expected to combine, possibly completing one or two loops.

A second system in the Central Atlantic Ocean has a low (20%) chance for development over the next seven days. All other tropical waves have dissipated.
