Orlando weather: Mostly dry start to week with seasonable temperatures

ORLANDO, Fla. - TONIGHT: Showers and storms are exiting quickly across Central Florida and will give way to a dry evening. For any last-minute or outdoor dinner plans, you'll be in good shape! It will be another mostly cloudy, warm, and muggy night with lows falling into the mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Monday's forecast looks like it will be the pick of the week, weather-wise! Temperatures will be seasonable overall, with highs near 90 degrees. More dry air will be in place tomorrow compared to what we saw today, which means rain and storm chances will be kept at 20%. 

Plan for a mix of sunshine and clouds and a breezy onshore wind, with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

LOOKING AHEAD: For Tuesday and Wednesday, breezy onshore winds will continue. This will lead to dangerous surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents. If you have any beach plans, be sure to swim near a lifeguard and stay safe. Temperatures will hold steady in the upper 80s through about Thursday before we see a potential climb back into the 90s by the weekend. 

Regarding rain chances, these will largely depend on the potential tropical development off the east coast of Florida. Regardless, at this point, there looks to be ample moisture arriving by mid- to late-week. As a result, rain and storm chances have increased by the end of the week, with the best chances taking place on Thursday and Friday.

Tracking the Tropics

We are watching two areas of potential tropical development across the SW Atlantic and SW Gulf of Mexico.

• SOUTHWEST GULF OF MEXICO - There is a 70% (high) chance of tropical development for an area in the Bay of Campeche. A broad area of low pressure is set to develop over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early this week. Conditions are favorable for gradual development, which means a tropical depression or tropical storm might be able to form by the middle of this week as it moves slowly westward or west-northwestward. The first name on this year's list is "Alberto."
• EAST COAST OF FLORIDA - There is a 30% (low) chance of tropical development for a broad area off the east coast of Georgia and Florida. An area of low pressure looks to form near midweek a few hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas. Some slow development of this system is possible as it gradually moves to the west. If a tropical system is able to form, which would be very unusual and unlikely for this time of year, it would be disorganized and fast-moving. At this point in time, the impact on Florida would be on the lower end. Heavy rain, minor-moderate coastal flooding, and rough surf will likely take place on Thursday in central-eastern Florida and southeast Georgia.
