Florida to get taste of Winter for New Years

Temperatures will plummet a bit in Central Florida as New Years Day approaches.

TONIGHT: Staying overcast with rain showers developing from the west. Rain in most locations by 2-3 a.m. Thursday. No thunderstorms or downpours are expected overnight. Just light to at times moderate rains.

THURSDAY:
Rain in the morning-midday, with some moderate bursts possible in areas south or Orlando, particularly near Melbourne and Brevard County. Rain pushes off the east coast of FL by the early afternoon. Some dry time returns by mid-afternoon in most locations. A few more sprinkles or drizzle may return Thursday evening and the early part of the overnight. Rain totals of 1/2" or more are possible from Melbourne to Cocoa Beach to Winter Have. Rain amounts less than 1/2" areas from Daytona Beach to Deltona to Lake Mary to Leesburg and Ocala-Gainesville.

OUTLOOK:
Colder air arrives in stages Friday. Some clouds may linger on Friday. Won't be until probably Saturday that we "fully" clear out all the clouds and return to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be in the 50s for highs Friday and Saturday.

Overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. Wind chill Saturday morning will be quite apparent across the area with a brisk NW wind up to 15-20 MPH. New Years Eve looks great with lots of sunshine. Clear and chilly New Years Eve night if you'll be going out to dinner or parties for the holiday. We will ring in 2024 with a sunny morning next Monday, and a few clouds return late next Monday as another front approaches for early next Tuesday (January 2nd) morning.
