ORLANDO, Fla. - This week will bring breezy conditions across the area, with east winds blowing at 15 to 25 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 30 mph.
While not entirely unprecedented, the likelihood of afternoon and evening rain showers is somewhat unusual for late October and early November.
HALLOWEEN FORECAST: The east winds and chances for rain will persist into the weekend. Halloween night is expected to be pleasant, with temperatures in the 70s and a light breeze. There is hope that rain will clear up before sunset on Thursday, allowing trick-or-treaters to enjoy a mainly dry evening.
LOOKING AHEAD: The northeasterly flow will continue to influence the weather for the rest of the week, keeping isolated showers and gusty winds in the forecast through Friday. Temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs in the low to mid 80s. Don't forget to set your clocks back on Sunday morning!
Tracking the Tropics
In the tropics, forecasters are monitoring the potential development of Tropical Storm Patty. Two scenarios are being considered for the system's evolution. It is expected to become a depression or storm either this weekend or early next week.
One path could take it across the islands and into the Bahamas, while another scenario suggests a westward trajectory toward the Yucatán Peninsula and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico. The latter scenario could pose a greater threat to Florida or the continental United States toward the end of next week.
Water temperatures remain unusually warm in the Caribbean, and light wind shear is projected, which could allow the storm to strengthen into a hurricane if it remains over those waters long enough. However, should the storm enter the Gulf of Mexico, it could weaken due to cooler waters typical for this time of year.
Even a weakening storm could still impact the region. Alternatively, the system may affect areas such as Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
While it's essential to stay informed, experts caution against unnecessary worry. Travelers or those with cruise plans in the Caribbean next week should closely monitor updates, as there is a realistic possibility of a hurricane developing in the region.
