Orlando warns that 3 city lakes are contaminated
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The City of Orlando is warning residents that three lakes are crawling with fecal bacteria.
Lake Formosa, Lake Rowena, and Lake Sue are surrounded by pristine docks and million-dollar homes, but authorities on Friday said a leaking sewage pump, also called a lift station, is to blame for the recent contamination. Warning signs have been posted around the affected lakes, letting everybody know about the problem.
The city said the leaking lift station has failed four times in the last 16 months, each time for a different reason. Officials are now working with the owner of the lift station, Tampa-based Forge Capital Partners, and the state environmental protection department to keep this from happening again.
The city said the owner paid for the cleanup, and may face a fine for the leak.
