Firefighters with the Orlando Fire Department welcomed students after their first day of school at the Engelwood Neighborhood Center on Monday.  They provided them with donated items after they experienced a fire at their apartment complex just five days ago.

Flames ripped through the Royal Isles Apartment complex and damaged 12 apartment units, leaving 71 residents displaced including 20 children without basic supplies.

Orlando Fire Department, in partnership with Publix Super Market and Walmart Supercenter, worked to collect items for these children, including non-perishable food, blankets, backpacks and school supplies.
In addition to providing goods, firefighters will speak with students at the center about fire safety and preparedness in emergencies.
