Investigators believe a fire that damaged several units at the Regency Garden condominiums in Orlando was accidental, according to preliminary evidence.

Firefighters were called to the complex at 5600 Devonbriar Way Drive around 2 p.m. on Thursday.  When they arrived and they heard a fire alarm and saw smoke billowing out of one of the buildings. At least 20 residents were affected by the blaze.  Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and managed to rescue three dogs that were inside the building.

Authorities said an Orlando police officer was at the complex for a different call when he smelled smoke.  "We went door to door, trying to get everybody out," said the officer.  "A couple of other officers arrived on scene and we began kicking-in doors where were unable to get people out from -- 15 to 20 people and about five dogs."
