Orlando couple victims in road rage incident
ORLANDO, Fla. - Deputies say an Orlando couple was on their way to pick up some donuts when they were boxed in by two different cars on Orange Blossom Trail.
It was just before midnight on Sunday when deputies say two different drivers targeted a young couple traveling along OBT.
The victims told investigators a Honda CRV drove in front of their car, pressing on the brakes, while a man in an Acura pulled to the left of the victim's car.
Deputies say both of the vehicles boxed the victim in, forcing him to stop. According to investigators, that's when a man in the Acura pointed a gun and started yelling at them in Spanish.
Luckily the victims were able to drive off and called 911.
54-year-old Joel Lopez Garcia was arrested and held on a $3500 bond.
Deputies say he had a gun in his car.
During his court appearance, the judge talked about Garcia having a very serious prior arrest.
"I see an out-of-state attempted murder, but no Florida history."
Diego Fandiano works by the area where the assault occurred.
"That's crazy, this is kind of scary because you don't know what's gonna happen when you drive. If you do something, but you don't want to do it on purpose you don't know if the other person is going to get out of their cars with guns."
The victims, who asked not to be identified, say Garcia wanted to race them on the street. But when they refused he got mad.
Fandiano says, ""You don't know what's going to happen the next day. It's kind of dangerous. This area is getting worse and worse every day."
Garcia is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
