Orange County woman, 78, shot during home invasion

A 78-year-old woman is recovering after a stranger broke into her home.

A front door with shattered glass and a boarded up window is all that's left of a violent scene, after police say 39-year-old Henry Stallings barged into an Orlando home startling Doris Ford in her own bedroom.

Neighbor Willie Stephens says, “They weren't expecting anybody to attack them like that cause they don't bother nobody.”

Police say Ford's son heard his mother screaming and ran inside with a gun.  They say Stallings fought with the son and that's when the gun went off, hitting the mother.   After the struggle police say the suspect ran across the street, dived through a window, scaring the homeowners inside.

Roxie Streeter says, “This guy came through the window and fell on the floor and was bleeding. He was a big guy and he was hollering and stuff."

Making all kinds of crazy sounds Stephens says.

“He said the guy was walking around making an animal noise.”

Streeter says Stallings was a stranger.

“I turned back around went back in my room, locked the door, got a cell phone, got a knife and stayed in there till I got the police on the line and stuff.”

She says Stallings left, the same way he came in.

“The guy ran passed him, went out the room and dived back out the window.”

They hope Ford will be ok. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

“I just feel sorry for the lady, she done got shot,” adds Streeter.

Stephens agrees, saying “We're all praying for Mrs Ford she's in our thoughts and prayers.”
