Orange County deputy accidentally shoots self at gun range
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - An Orange County deputy is recovering after accidentally shooting himself on Wednesday morning at the sheriff's office's gun range, authorities said.
The deputy reportedly shot himself in the lower half of his body while training at the shooting range on 14500 Wewahootee Rd. He was given medical treatment immediately and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Sheriff John Mina said he spoke with the doctors and his deputy's injuries are not critical.
"Right now they're just trying to determine the extent of his injuries, but it appears he's going to be ok."
Sheriff Mina thanked the first responders and staff at the gun range for their help at the scene.
The deputy has not been named, but Sheriff Mina told the media he is an 8-year veteran. Mina said this was a normal training exercise when the gun accidentally discharged.
