OCOEE, Fla. - One person was shot during an officer-involved shooting in Ocoee on Thursday evening, police said. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Old Winter Garden Road east of Hempel Ave.
Acting Ocoee Police Department Chief Vincent Ogburn said they received a call at the Walmart on Colonial Drive about shoplifting. When they arrived, loss prevention said the two suspects left the store and got into a green pickup truck. A short while later, the truck was spotted in an adjacent parking lot. According to investigators, the driver crashed into an Ocoee police officer's patrol car.
The person on the passenger side of the truck got out and raised his hand before being shot by an officer, Chief Ogburn said.

Both suspects were taken to the hospital, and the one who was shot has non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police discovered the suspect in the passenger car didn't have a weapon in his hand when he got out of the car.
No officers were hurt in the shooting.

On Friday, Ocoee Police identified the driver as Gregorio Mendoza Moreno, 48. The passenger has been identified as "a juvenile, known to the suspect driver."
Moreno is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, retail theft, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Additional charges are pending.
