Nightly detours scheduled for Alafaya Trail approaching S.R. 408
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Alafaya Trail is scheduled to close intermittently in both directions approaching State Road 408 (S.R. 408) for approximately four weeks beginning October 9th, according to the Central Florida Expressway Authority.
They say that the overnight detours will run from Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. During these hours, southbound Alafaya Trail drivers will get on westbound S.R. 408 to return to southbound Alafaya Trail. Northbound drivers will be directed to take Lake Underhill Road to Woodbury Road, then east on Waterford Lakes Parkway to get back to northbound Alafaya Trail.
Tolls will reportedly be suspended at the Rouse Road ramp plaza during the detour.
This detour is part of the 3.24-mile road widening project on S.R. 408 that began on October 16th, 2017. The Central Florida Expressway Authority says that the goal is to relieve congestion between State Road 417 and east of Alafaya Trail. This $76 million project should be completed in late 2019.
