New surveillance footage of Parkland school shooting released

On Wednesday, new surveillance video from inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the shooting that took 17 lives in February 2018 was released by the State Supreme Court.

Students are seen running out of the school and into the parking lot. They appear pixelated to protect their identities. Moments later, police and deputies are seen swarming the area and surrounding the building where the shooting took place.

The Broward County School Board and prosecutors tried to block the release of this video. School officials say that the footage may reveal security blind spots at the school and prosecutors say it could be evidence in the case.

The suspect behind the shooting, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, could face the death penalty if convicted. His attorney says that Cruz would plead guilty in exchange for a life prison sentence.
