DEBARY, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Fire crews worked for hours Thursday to get a house fire under control. Flames and smoke could be seen shooting from the home on Dirksen Drive.
A neighbor saw smoke coming from the property and alerted the man who lives there. He got out safely. Orange City firefighters say they faced two big issues when battling the blaze.
They say they initially had trouble accessing a water source because the hydrants were hard to open. They also say the fire has continued to burn in an area between the metal roof of the house, and an older tar and gravel roof below it. Officials say the home is no longer livable. No word on the cause.
