Power restored after 'unusual event' caused outage for over 3,000 customers in Volusia County: officials

More than 3,000 utility customers in New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater had their power restored on Friday morning following an incident that caused an outage, according to New Smyrna Beach Utilities. 

The outage began around 9 p.m. Thursday, after an "unusual event" with underground power lines on the beach side of the utility's service area.

Nearly half of the outage was restored on Thursday night, but repairs were still underway for the remaining customers on Friday morning.

The power was restored to all customer shortly before 10 a.m.
