One of Milton, Georgia's oldest known residents has passed away at the age of 111, the city of Milton sadly announced Monday.

Elsada Miriam Duncan, known as "Granny" or "Ms. Elsie" by her loved ones, friends, and neighbors in Milton, died on Saturday, March 16.

Two months ago in January, the Milton City Council celebrated Duncan with a proclomation in honor of her 110th birthday.

Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood said he would be "forever grateful" that he could help Duncan celebrate such big milestones, pointing out that she even beat breast cancer at 104 years old.

"As mayor, I've had the privilege of celebrating centennial birthdays with three Milton seniors. I can remember dancing with Granny as her family and friends gathered to celebrate her turning 100," Milton Lockwood said in a statement.

He said he couldn't agree more with her message on her birthday: "We must all show love to each other and be kind to each other."
