1 dead, 1 hurt in shooting at Melbourne park, police say
A shooting Saturday night at Eddie Lee Taylor Park in Melbourne left one man dead and another man in critical condition, according to the police. At 7:24 p.m., gunshots were heard near the entrance of the park, which sent both crowds running in all directions, police said. Two adult men had been shot, police said. One man was transported to the hospital via car. That man was last listed in critical condition. Police said a second person was found shot in the parking lot. He was transported to the hospital, where he died. His name was not released.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - A shooting Saturday night at Eddie Lee Taylor Park in Melbourne left one man dead and another man in critical condition, according to the police.
Police said there were two large crowds gathered at the park – one to watch youth football games, and the other believed to be linked to the funeral of Craig Dewberry, a man shot and killed on Sept. 10 at the Tip Top Mini Market.
At 7:24 p.m., gunshots were heard near the entrance of the park, which sent both crowds running in all directions, police said.

Police said a second person was found shot in the parking lot. He was transported to the hospital, where he died. His name was not released.
Police have not released any details on the circumstances of the shooting nor whether they're looking for any suspects. It's also unclear if the shooting is believed to be connected to the gatherings at the park.
Melbourne police respond to earlier shooting nearby
Earlier on Saturday, around 3:30 p.m. Melbourne police responded to a home on Camphor Way regarding a shooting.
A man was found with gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said. His name was not released.
According to police, an unknown male exited a vehicle at the home and started shooting towards at least two men in the driveway. One man was hit, police said.
It is not clear if both shootings are connected, but police said they are investigating that possibility.

A community is grieving after a local father was robbed and shot to death at a convenience store in Melbourne. FOX 35 learned from the victim’s mom, Craig Dewberry Jr., who was a father with an 8-year-old daughter before he was murdered.

Craig S. Dewberry Jr., 27, was shot and killed on Sept. 10, 2024 at the Tip Top Mini Mart in Melbourne, police said.
"He was like no other. He had so many friends. A lot of people loved Craig," his mother previously told FOX 35. "He was one person that definitely did not deserve this at all. He didn’t deserve this."

Suspect in deadly Melbourne shooting sought
A deadly shooting in a Melbourne convenience store prompted the lockdown of two nearby schools.
Police arrested Malachi Dante Bell, 21, later that night at a bus stop in Sebastian, Florida. He was booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder in Dewberry's death and robbery with a firearm.
Again, it's unclear if Saturday's shooting was connected to Dewberry's death, police said.
