Maria victims say response should have been better
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Eli Berraos says he’s found work and a nice home in Kissimmee after Hurricane Maria hit his home town of Puerto Rico.
"I have been fortunate but there’s a lot of people that are not so fortunate."
President Trump calls the response to Hurricane Maria positive.
"I think Puerto Rico was a success. Texas we have been given A-pluses."
But Eli disagrees about the response in Puerto Rico.
"It breaks my heart every time he says something so awful and wrong about Puerto Rico."
He says they should have had supplies soon after the hurricane hit.
"I don’t think Puerto Rico is so far and so inaccessible that they couldn’t get the supplies that they needed to Puerto Rico on time. We’re not that far from the mainland and have one of the strongest military forces in the whole world."
While he’s grateful to have a good life in Central Florida, he often thinks about Puerto Rico.
"I miss my Island everyday."
A protest will take place outside Mar-a-Largo estate by the Alliance for Progress on September 22.
