Man who shot money carrier found guilty of attempted murder
SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A jury has handed down a guilty verdict for a man on trial for shooting a money carrier at an Altamonte Springs Publix grocery store in 2015.
Lilburtie Willis was convicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of a Loomis bank truck guard at the Palm Springs Crossing Publix, near the corner of State Road 436 and Palm Springs Drive.
Marcos Rivera was shot in the head during a robbery, prosecutors said, leaving him in critical condition. Willis was also convicted on a charge of armed robbery.
"We're just happy with the outcome, the way everything came out," said Rivera following the verdict, "just want to thank all of the lawyers and everybody involved, and I'm happy justice was served today."
Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m.
