Cocoa police have identified the man who was shot after he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer and security guard at an apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Dexter Bray, 51, is currently in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Cocoa Police Department, Bray has an active felony warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm. He will face additional charges relating to Thursday’s incident.

Police said the shooting happened around 3 p.m. at the Village Green apartments near Dixon Blvd. and Clearlake Road.

According to police, a tow truck driver was attempting to remove a vehicle from the property when a security guard asked a police officer to be on standby. When the officer arrived to the apartment complex, a man – now identified as Bray – opened the door to his apartment armed with a handgun and allegedly pointed it at the security officer and the police officer, the police department said.

Both the security guard and the police officer shot at Bray who was shot and later transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center.
