ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - An Orlando woman says a man pretending to be a mechanic stole her car, as well as her money.
"The car has a misfire that's basically what's wrong with the car." Gregoria Ruiz says her husband met a man at this auto parts store, pretending to be a mechanic. "He said, well I know how to fix the cars, so he brought the guy here and said, well I'll fix it for you."
When he showed up deputies say the man told Gregoria he needed her car key. "For me to give him the key. Said I just need to take it to the shop, lift it up and see what's wrong with it. I came inside for a few seconds and he was gone."
Gregoria was in shock, "I was upset with myself. Mad at the same time. He seemed nice."
Deputies later arrested 52-year-old Carlos Laboy after spotting the stolen Lexus. Gregoria says the car was found without any gas.
She's relieved to get it back, "It was in Winter Garden, They catch him last night 3-4 o'clock in the morning. It's my car. It's something material, but it's my ride to go back and forth to work." And Gregoria says she still needs to get her car fixed.
