Vehicle burglary turns deadly in Orange County
A car break-in ended with a suspect being shot and killed by an off-duty Orange County corrections officer.
ORLANDO, Fla. - A man was fatally shot around 5:18 a.m. Thursday during an alleged vehicle burglary at the Summergate Apartments, located at 4881 Cypress Woods Drive, police say.
Officers with the Orlando Police Department responded to the scene after reports of a shooting.
According to investigators, the suspect, who now has been identified as 21-year-old Widlerson Pierre, was shot while attempting to break into a vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The individual who fired the shot remained on-site and cooperated with authorities, officials say.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
