Man injured after road rage shooting near mall
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Police are searching for the suspects in a road rage shooting near the Altamonte Mall that landed a man in the hospital.
The intersection of 436 and Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Altamonte Springs is where police say it all started.
“What we know, again, it's not a random act of violence,” explained Officer Evelyn Estevez, Altamonte Springs Police spokesperson, “it looks like these vehicles were involved in some type of incident on the roadway and that's why the shooting occurred.”
Estevez said their argument led up Central Parkway behind the Altamonte Mall, where the shooting happened. They say suspect fired round after round into the victim's car and then took off toward Douglas Ave.
Estevez said they're looking for a Hispanic male driver and female passenger in a black Honda. She added that they're still working to piece it all together.
“This isn't something we look forward to,” she said, “we just hope that somebody can come forward. It's obviously a busy night for us. If there's somebody that saw anything on the roadway, if they saw something happen, we're looking for more information, we're still looking for those suspects.”
Estevez said the man driving the car they shot at was taken to ORMC with minor injuries, a woman in the car with him wasn't hurt. She said the victims are giving them all the information they can to find the shooter.
She also said police don't know what sparked the situation, but it's important for drivers to be patient out on the roads, especially during this holiday shopping season.
“You know, this is an unfortunate event,” Estevez said, “obviously this is the holiday season. There's a lot of cars on the road, a lot of traffic on the road. We just ask everybody to bring patience when they're coming out to shop. It's an unfortunate event when this type of thing happens during a driving incident.”
Altamonte Springs Police say they hope to put out more information on this shooting on Monday.
